How to use Compare Files

  1. 1
Choose the two Excel/CSV files you want to compare, or add them to the upload area one after another.
  2. 2
Confirm the header row, then select key column(s) (such as Customer ID or Phone) to identify matching rows.
  3. 3
Click Compare, check the three result sheets — only in A, only in B, and in both — then download the file.

When to use this

  • Great for comparing this month's customer list against last month's to see who's new and who dropped off.
  • Useful for checking a price list or inventory sheet against last month's version to spot exactly what changed.
  • Handy for cross-checking two files from different sources — like a purchase order and an invoice — without writing a VLOOKUP formula.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need to select specific key columns instead of comparing entire rows?

Comparing entire rows character-by-character can cause rows to mismatch due to minor note differences or typos. Selecting a unique key column (like Customer ID, Phone, or SKU) ensures that LocalSheet accurately identifies matching records and sorts them into "In both", "Only in A", and "Only in B".

What if the two files have their columns in a different order?

The comparison lines up columns by their position in the first file, so make sure both files have their columns in the same order before comparing.

Does my file really never get sent to a server?

Correct — LocalSheet does all its processing inside your own web browser. Your file data never travels over the network to anywhere. It even works with your internet connection turned off.

Is there a limit on file size or number of files?

For browser performance and stability, we support files totaling up to 10MB. Merging files supports up to 20 files at once.

Is there a fee, or do I need to log in?

No. Every LocalSheet tool is completely free, with no account and no login required.
