How to use Normalize Format
- 1Choose the Excel/CSV file with the phone numbers or dates you want to normalize, or drop it into the upload area.
- 2Pick phone number or date, choose a style, and select the columns it applies to.
- 3Click Normalize format, check how many cells changed in the preview, then download the result.
When to use this
- Great for formatting a US/Canada phone number column as (555) 123-4567 so every row looks the same.
- Useful for standardizing a date column where 3/4/2026, 2026-03-04, and 20260304 are all mixed together, so sorting and filtering work correctly.
- Handy before importing a spreadsheet into another system that expects one consistent phone or date format.
Frequently asked questions
Does this handle ambiguous dates like 3/4/2026 — is that March 4 or April 3?
It looks at every value in the column first: if any date in that column has a number over 12 in one position, that tells it which position is the day versus the month. If nothing in the column settles it, it defaults to month-first (US convention) — you can override this by choosing "Month first" or "Day first" yourself instead of "Auto-detect."
Does the phone number option work for US or Canadian numbers?
Yes — 10-digit North American (NANP) numbers, with or without a leading country code 1, are recognized and can be formatted with hyphens or as (555) 123-4567. Numbers from outside North America are safely left unchanged.
Does my file really never get sent to a server?
Correct — LocalSheet does all its processing inside your own web browser. Your file data never travels over the network to anywhere. It even works with your internet connection turned off.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
For browser performance and stability, we support files totaling up to 10MB. Merging files supports up to 20 files at once.
Is there a fee, or do I need to log in?
No. Every LocalSheet tool is completely free, with no account and no login required.
