How to use Remove Empty Rows

  1. 1
Choose the Excel (XLSX) or CSV file you want to clean up, or drag it into the upload area.
  2. 2
Confirm the header row, then choose whether a row counts as empty when every column is blank or only a specific column.
  3. 3
Click Remove empty rows, check the result in the preview, and download the cleaned file.

When to use this

  • Handy for files exported from a system that inserts blank spacer rows between sections.
  • Useful when combining work from multiple people that left stray empty rows scattered through the data.
  • Good for clearing out rows that look empty but actually contain a stray space, which can break formulas or pivot tables.

Frequently asked questions

Are cells with only a space character treated as empty too?

Yes — turn on "Treat whitespace-only cells as empty" and a cell containing just a space or tab is counted as blank, so the row gets removed safely.

Can I only remove rows that are empty in one specific column?

Yes. Choose "Selected column is empty" and pick that column — rows get removed based on that column alone, even if other columns still have data.

Does my file really never get sent to a server?

Correct — LocalSheet does all its processing inside your own web browser. Your file data never travels over the network to anywhere. It even works with your internet connection turned off.

Is there a limit on file size or number of files?

For browser performance and stability, we support files totaling up to 10MB. Merging files supports up to 20 files at once.

Is there a fee, or do I need to log in?

No. Every LocalSheet tool is completely free, with no account and no login required.
